剧情：英国名导演理查德．莱斯特应邀赴好莱坞拍摄的第一部电影，改编自同名百老汇歌舞喜剧，并由原剧男主角胖子谐星泽罗．莫斯特尔饰演主人翁——一名古罗马的奴隶。他为了争取自由，先得帮主人追求到一名高级妓女，于是使尽各种手段，偷诈拐骗无所不为，整个罗马城的人几乎都被他逼疯了。整部影片拍得相当热闹有趣，演员也有逗笑演出。难得的是默片时代喜剧巨匠巴斯特．基顿也在片中客串一角，饰演女主角安妮特．安德烈的父亲。
